Level 2 — Build & Strengthen Your Qi
50 hours
Deepen the practice. Cultivate from within.
With the foundations of Level 1 established, Level 2 turns the practice inward.
You’ll move beyond learning the movements to explore how Qi is cultivated, strengthened and guided through the body. Through Qi Gong, Traditional Chinese Medicine, standing practice and Tai Chi, you’ll deepen your understanding of rooting, connection, relaxation and internal awareness.
The journey follows five principles: RELAX → ROOT → CONNECT → CULTIVATE → GUIDE. Rather than trying to create more effort, you’ll explore how releasing unnecessary tension, establishing your roots and connecting the whole body can create the conditions for Qi to flow more naturally.
Level 2 is also an invitation to deepen your presence as a teacher. Before we can guide others, we learn to cultivate ourselves. Through personal practice, reflection and teaching, you’ll continue developing the confidence, sensitivity and embodied understanding to share Qi Gong with greater clarity and compassion.
What You’ll Explore
The Three Treasures — Jing, Qi and Shen — and their relationship to vitality, energy and spirit
The principles of relaxing, rooting, connecting, cultivating and guiding
How physical structure and grounding influence stability, movement and internal awareness
The role of the feet and Yongquan (KD1) in rooting and energetic connection
How Traditional Chinese Medicine understands Qi, meridians and patterns of balance and imbalance
The relationship between physical, energetic and emotional wellbeing from a TCM perspective
How breath, awareness, intention and movement can support the cultivation and circulation of Qi
An introduction to Wu Chi and Zhan Zhuang as standing practices for structure, awareness and internal cultivation
Yin and Yang as practical principles that can be experienced through movement and everyday life
Moving from simply performing a form towards feeling and embodying the practice
Learning to Teach
Level 2 develops the teacher alongside the practitioner. As your own practice deepens, you’ll explore how to guide others with greater sensitivity, clarity and presence.
Teaching from your own embodied experience rather than simply repeating instructions
Mindful cueing that gives students space to explore and feel
Observing the individual rather than expecting every body to move in the same way
Helping students experience success while respecting their abilities and limitations
Knowing when to offer guidance — and when to allow space for discovery
Creating an environment grounded in compassion, kindness and non-judgement
Supporting students to deepen their practice without forcing an experience
Continuing to develop your own authentic voice and presence as a Qi Gong teacher
At this level, teaching becomes less about having all the answers and more about learning how to observe, listen and guide.
Practices
Your Level 2 practice toolkit expands to include:
Qi Gong Warm-Ups & Energy Activation
Toes & Feet Energy Opening
Six Healing Sounds (Liu Zi Jue)
Five Treasures Qi Gong
Deeper Dive into Wu Chi & Zhan Zhuang
8-Form Yang Style Tai Chi
Introduction to Push Hands
The introduction of Tai Chi and Push Hands gives you another way to explore rooting, whole-body connection, sensitivity and the relationship between your own centre and another person.
Practice → Reflect → Teach
As in Level 1, you’ll have opportunities to experience the practices yourself before sharing them with others.
Through individual exploration, partner work, reflection and small-group teaching, you’ll begin noticing the difference between knowing a movement intellectually and understanding it through your own body.
This becomes increasingly important as you progress towards Levels 3 and 4.
Bonus Practice
Sound Healing for Rest & Recovery
Explore the therapeutic qualities of sound as a simple practice for rest, relaxation and recovery. You’ll experience how vibration, sound and mindful listening can help settle the body and mind, release tension and create space for deeper rest.
This practice offers another way to explore the relationship between vibration, awareness and Qi, while providing a gentle tool that can complement your personal practice and teaching.
The Level 2 Journey
RELAX → ROOT → CONNECT → CULTIVATE → GUIDE
Level 1 gives you the foundations.
Level 2 teaches you how to inhabit them.
Rather than simply collecting more movements, the emphasis begins to shift towards understanding what is happening within the movement — in your structure, breath, awareness and Qi.
Build yourself before you build others.
This is the beginning of the deeper internal journey that continues through Level 3 — Embody the Tao in Everyday Life and Level 4 — Cultivate the Internal Arts.
About the Lead Teacher, Hang Nhan
Qi Gong Educator • Teacher Trainer • Co-Founder of saigon om
Hang’s path to Qi Gong began through more than 20 years of martial arts, movement and teaching. Her early years were spent training and competing in external martial arts, including Taekwondo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Kung Fu and Kali. After years of pushing her body — and accumulating injuries along the way — she began looking for a more sustainable way to cultivate strength, health and longevity.
That search led her to Qi Gong and Yang Tai Chi, first in Canada and later in southern China, where she spent two years from 2006–2008 deepening her study of the internal arts at the root school of Choy Li Fut.
Today, Hang’s work brings together traditional Qi Gong, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), mindfulness and movement science. She is particularly interested in helping students understand the why behind the practice — how Qi moves through the body, how TCM views the relationship between the organs, emotions and energy, and how Qi Gong can help harmonize these patterns and bring the body-mind back towards balance.
Her ongoing studies include Five Element Acupressure, alongside years of exploration in anatomy, biomechanics, fascia, injury prevention and mindful movement.
A former engineer, school teacher, personal trainer and martial arts instructor, Hang brings an educator’s curiosity to everything she teaches. Her approach is practical, inclusive and down-to-earth: learn the movements, understand the principles, feel them in your own body, and discover how the practice can become part of everyday life.
Through saigon om, Hang now focuses primarily on Qi Gong education and Teacher Training Levels 1–4, supporting practitioners and wellness professionals who want to move beyond simply following Qi Gong movements towards a deeper understanding of the practice.
And when she’s not chasing after two rambunctious children, Hang can usually be found stealing little pockets of quiet to work on her first Qi Gong book — a project that, much like Qi Gong itself, is teaching her something about patience, persistence and going with the flow.
